Ordering food at this place was a circus. No signage where to order, employees are completely unprepared for crowds, multiple lines all over the place. Because of the disorganization, the restaurant is filthy! Food everywhere, dust, grease. They were cutting brown lettuce for sandwiches and the whole back counter was covered in crusty dried gravy. We ordered an egg sandwich... The eggs were made in the freaking microwave, and the bacon was precooked bacon bits. He croissant was very good though, obviously home made. The ladies making the breakfast sandwiches were clearly stressed out by the crowds, and very unpleasant. After hearing that this was the best bakery in town, I am very disappointed in the cleanliness and organization.

Four muffins and two donuts had my family singing your praises! Love the happiness the chocolate muffin brought-and hubs can't wait to polish of the cranberry! They are CASH ONLY so be prepared.

They have gluten free treat options! The had peanut butter cookies, plain & chocolate dipped macaroons and chocolate dipped haystacks today. The macaroons were wonderful, my husband does't love coconut and he said "they were pretty good". I like coconut and thought they were wonderful. A very nice over worked lady helped me, she was going back and forth between two registers. She was a little frazzled, and yet still polite and wiling to help me find gluten free options. This is a place to check out!

Yummy treats plus they have dairy free options! Perfect for a little snack an coffee pick me up after venturing around the town.

Everything the reviews said and more. This review is just for the bakery. Amazing selection of all sorts of great sweet goods. Glad I don't live closer because I would be ginormous. We settled on several items to take back to our room and the best was the "devil dog" which is a chocolate bar filled with custard. Yooser! Already wishing we had bought a dozen instead of a half dozen.

My fiance and I were craving pastries for breakfast so we decided to take a bike ride to the Cottage Bakery. It was PACKED!! I talked to a local standing in line in front of us, and she said obviously because it was 4th of July weekend, there was going to be a lot of people, but she has NEVER seen the bakery that packed ever. The pastries were delicious and very affordable! The only downside is the lines were very long, especially for the deli/coffee part of the store. It takes awhile for them to make one sandwich or one coffee, so be patient when you're standing in line. The wait is worth it! I would've rated this place higher if it hadn't been for the lines we had to stand in.

  • Richard H.

When we went here, it was very busy with long lines, they do have a nice selection of bakery stuff, and the service here was pretty prompt and courteous- they did a real good job at keeping the line moving- we ended up getting a couple things, but I had thought I asked for a turnover, which we did not get so I hope we didnt pay for it lol. Overall, I would recommend this place if your in the Long Beach,,WA (not California lol) area!

Wonderful little bakery! Super friendly service. Gorgeous cakes in the cake stand, and an array of pastries! Also sandwiches available for the more healthy food inclined. The lattes were just so-so but I'd still be back, if only to look again at the cakes and sample the great pastries!

This place has some good qualities and some bad ones. Bad ones first. The deli side is really not worth much. It's all microwaved and flat with no taste. The coffee is sub par. On the bakery side, the cake was dry and salty. The buttercream was WAY too sweet. The muffins were heavy, buttery, and doughy. Now on to the good qualities. The service is stellar and friendly. The cookies, cupcakes, and doughnuts were very pretty to look at and the kids loved them. Their prices are VERY reasonable. I highly recommend taking home a loaf of bread. I leave it up to you. Make a point to stop in and check it out while you're in Long Beach.

Cash only! I think I am on a four-star roll for this trip. We didn't order any food to be prepared, but we ordered some pastries and doughnut. They were excellent. I fancy myself a doughnut connoisseur and this is the third worthy bakery I have found. My husband had a praline pastry , my grandson a peanut butter chocolate muffin, my grand daughter a sprinkled cake doughnut and I had a maple bar. They were all fresh and delicious. The other two great bakeries are Sluys in Poulsbo, WA and Larry and Kristy's in Bremerton, WA. I did think the staff left something to be desired. They seemed a little cranky. Also, when you go in, know that you pay at one counter and get your goodies there. The coffee and other drinks are down at the other end and you get them yourself. You have to go...

While driving around looking for some good breakfast items we spotted this really cute little bakery on the strip of longbeach. When you walk in its a bit confusing because there are 3 different places to order sweets, coffee and egg sandwiches. You can order at one of the registers but the way the bakery is set up you can't see the menu for anything else on the other side. So it's best just to go to the registers seperatly. The bakery goods were amazing! I got 5 different donuts to try and they all were really good. The breakfast sandwiches kind of freaked me out since they microwave the egg.... ot a fan of that no matter how cute the bakery is. 3 stars just because the bakery items are THAT good!

  • Tom K.

Best breakfast sandwich I ever had. I suppose the freshly made English muffin wad a key part of the deliciousness. Staff was very friendly.

Love this old fashioned bakery! Their haystacks and french crisps are to die for. Very inexpensive, good quality stuff here! We take extra haystacks home and freeze them. So good!

  • A H.

The bakery would be 4 stars, amazing service and excellent pastrys. However we were hungry and decided to eat..ummmmm....bad mistake. Everything on the "deli" side is microwaved. Not good atvall. The guy even made a comment to my husband about what he put on his hot dogs, awkward. So on our way out we will be getting n pastrys no food!!

I'd take a day trip to Long Beach just to go to this bakery! This place has lots of really good bakery items; they have a large variety of things. No trip to Long Beach is complete without making a stop in here! I can't pin point anything that I liked the most, it's all good, but I really like their turn overs, and anything cream filled. I didn't give this a 5 stars, although it has 5 star potential, because sometimes they serve us something that is borderline of being stale, not very fresh tasting, even so, everything has been edible, and it's been more hit than miss for us, and the so, so visits have only happened a few times, and even then it's still been worth it. They get really busy, and so I think that the lady can get a little short with people, but just be nice to her, and she'll warm right up.

Great bakery! Amazing old people vibe. INSANE selection. It looked to be 80-100 pastries to choose from (no exaggeration!). I had a bran muffin that was delicious and a strawberry and cream cheese Danish that was divine. All fresh baked. (which is necessary to specify after the food we've had in this part of Washington)

I have been going to long beach ever since I was born and the cottage bakery is still my favorite place to eat, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Their donuts are always made fresh and with quality ingredients! These are REAL donuts and pastries store made ones don't even begin to compare! Their deli food is amazing and fresh as well! Deffinetly stop by here if you are in town! You won't regret it:)

  • Mr. J.

I didn't realize that it was close to closing time, and they didn't accept cards. Right as I started to inquire about an ATM, the grouch at the counter loudly announced, "and now we're closed!" even though the display cases were FULL of breads, cookies, pastries, etc. So would customers coming the next day be getting stale baked goods instead of fresh ones? Unfortunate, as I live three hours away and this was probably the only time I will ever be in this area.

Good prices for well done doughnuts! Excited to try the fancier stuff next time :-) (cherry turnover, peanut butter chocolate muffins)

  • Samuel G.

I knew this place had good bakery stuff but I recently discovered their deli sandwiches. I am a bit sad I found out so late! Best place in town to sit back and enjoy an affordable lunch and cup of coffee. Highly recommend. Only down side is the lack of wifi ( but I read the paper, which was nice, so maybe it's an upside). Sandwich was truly great. Go here and you won't be disappointed.

Outstanding family run bakery, excellent deli as well. Get here early to beat the rush and enjoy a fresh apple fritter!

    (5)
  • Hannah H.

They have excellent bread here but make sure you have cash on hand as they do not accept cards. We like to stop by in the mornings for a slice of toast and a coffee. The booths are very comfortable.

  • Amy B.

We tried a number of items over several days. Prices were good. It's awesome what a huge selection they have (constantly changes) of stuff they make there themselves. We really liked the blueberry cake donut, the apple fritter, the dark rye sandwich bread, and the poppyseed muffin that tasted exactly like the ones from costco. Still fine but ordinary tasting were the chocolate glazed donut, regular glazed donut, and pecan-topped pastry that I can't remember the name of. So they make some stuff really well and some just boring... you'll have to taste and see what you like best.

  • William B.

Love the old school charm of this place, great for dropping in for coffee/donut, or getting an armload of goodies to take back to the hotel room or meeting. Devil dogs and racetrackes my favorite, the fabulous breads are great trophies to bring home after your vacation here. Baked goods are fresh daily. Open early for you fisherpeople too. Bring CASH, and some patience if its busy. I dont mind the 'No Card' - sick of VISA/MC getting a cut of the action on EVERYTHING and those of us using cash get stuck paying for others convenience. I am guessing most transactions are $5 and under here and with VISA usurious fees I can see why the proprietor says no to VISA. Personally I want Long Beach to thrive for a long time, this town is clearly struggling, I'll pay more to support local business and entrepreneurs.

Once again, I prove to be an unreliable Yelper and must seriously hedge my bets about this place. I don't drink coffee, I'm not a big eater of breakfast foods, and I wasn't particularly hungry the morning we stopped by here on our way out of Long Beach, so I spent most of the time taking photos. None of which you can see. I bet you're really happy you read this far into the review, aren't you? Anyway, my friend seemed to enjoy her beverage and pastry, but it took a long time to get service, and there's kind of a strange right-wing feel to the place, like you're afraid they're going to make you pledge allegiance before you get your cruller or something. This is the most worthless review I have ever written, and I'm very sorry about that. The girl at the front of this post will be happy to issue you a refund.

We stopped into the bakery while on vacation at Long Beach. There were so many delicious looking treats/breads it was super hard to decide but I decided on a cream horn and haystack. The haystack was fresh, moist and delicious. The cream horn was very stale tasting. The french bread we ordered was amazing. The staff was friendly and the prices were pretty reasonable. The bakery has an old "kitschy" feel to it but it was pleasant. I did notice several frustrated people because they didnt take cash. They did have an atm on sit though. We stopped in the next day to see if they had fresh cream horns and they did. We really enjoyed them! MAKE SURE THEY ARE FRESH. It would be great if they pulled the stale ones instead of serving them to customers but I guess you can just ask to make sure. If I lived close by, I would probably weight 300 lbs. The German Chocolate cake looked divine as did the lemon cupcakes. AND the And the And the...... We will definitely come back next time we are in town to sample some more goodies.

This place is delectable! One of my favorite things about life are custard filled donuts and this place has the best ones I've ever had. If you love Bavarian creamy goodness, ask for a devil dog from the fridge (or for a dozen, am I right?). Let's keep this place in business forever.

Cottage Bakery is like a page out of the past. I'm guessing not much has changed here in the last 30 or 40 years, but if you're doing it right, why change? My kids were excited for the vast donut selection, and they were not disappointed with the taste, either. There are also many choices for breads, pies, and sweet rolls (my wife enjoyed her cinnamon roll). I needed protein to start the day, so I opted for a ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich - "Spanish" style. My daughter had the same on an English muffin. Both sandwiches were outstanding - definitely 5 star worthy. They also offer espresso and regular coffee, although we didn't try any. Beware that they don't accept any plastic, so be sure to have cash on hand (they do have an ATM inside the bakery now). This is a must stop is you are in Long Beach -- it's a great blast from the past.

  • David O.

Be warned they don't take credit cards. We stood in a really long line, and there were no visible signs we could find that said they only took cash. It was really frustrating and the lady treated us like we were stupid and she was mad at us for not having cash. We were from out of town and didn't know. They did have an ATM, but I wasn't about to pay all the fees for a donut. It's 2014. No excuse to not accept major credit cards. Apart from that, the selection looked really great and from the looks of everything I'm sure it was great quality and taste. Just never got a chance to try it.

Disappointment. Went in about 10 am on a Saturday. 1st started with a breakfast sandwich, not recommended, for $6 the egg was microwaved, only the bread for it was good. McDonald's is better. 2nd they do not take card, wtf, for the amount they are charging and how busy they were (full), they have no excuse. This made the line pause every few minutes as paying parties had to get cash or use their ATM in the place. 3rd they have a bad point of sale system, as their register is to only ring up cash or check and they enter the amount of each item, it doesn't keep track of what is sold on each order. They were getting so many orders confused. It took extra time to get things sorted as they didn't get our espresso drinks or food right. This needs serious revamping. Every order should have an itemized list of what is ordered and an order number. Or put names down on drink cups and sandwich wrappers. 4th so I got past these and hoped their separate checkout for the bakery goods was better. It is as the baked goods take no time to prepare, just grab and ring up, no order number needed. I purchased a dozen chocolate chip cookies and went back to my hotel. Started on one, has nuts, no mention of that on the sign that regular chocolate chip cookies had these. Promptly went back and returned the rest, they did give me cash back. I don't recommend this place.

Went here to get a coffee and sweet tooth fix; got two (2) glazed twist doughnuts and a soy latte for only $6.19. Friendly people, well priced items. The doughnuts were moist and delicious and the soy latte was awesome.

Do. Not. Miss. Great baked good, great chowder. Eat in or take out. Lines are often long, but totally worth it. Red velvet cupcakes are a can't miss. Glazed cream cheese croissants are to die for. They have a "texas" maple donut that is bigger than your face! Espresso and foo foo coffee drinks are also available. They also have full sized cakes for your party needs! ITS WORTH IT.

There's only two things you need to know about cottage bakery: they are cash only and the blueberry scones will change your life. (Get there early!)

Amazing pastry selection, the delicious smells of the lunchtime fare greets you upon entry. Very friendly staff. I had a Persian pastry, delicious.! The apple fritters were almost the size of my head!

  • Tina Q.

Another traditional stop for us when we're in Long Beach. It'll probably take you a few minutes to decide on what you want because their selection is pretty grand. Everything is fresh and delicious. The place is packed - no matter when you go but it's totally worth it! We try to get something we've never tried every time we go - and so far haven't run out of selections! They also have lunch selections but we get so caught up with the baked goods - we've never made it to the other side lol

We have been staying in Long Beach for about 10 years and always pick up breakfast here. This past time we went and got our usual donuts. We tried them all and they all had a taste of burnt char. It was almost like they were cooked in old grease that had burned leftovers in them or in an oven that had burnt stuff in it. The pastries were fine but the donuts tasted terrible. We went back the next day to try them again to see if it were a fluke, still the same bad taste. We contacted the bakery and they were rude. We gave some to our friends and they said the same thing. Then we talked to some people at Pickled Fish and they said the same thing. Possible fluke, but I hope they get it fixed and are friendly to locals stay there.

  • Mark L.

They have the best donuts I've found in a long time. The deli and breads are also a treat. My favorite is the pumpernickel bread. Anytime we can we stop by and stock up on breads and apple fritters. Service can be an issue at times but that seems to be when they are in the middle of a rush.

I liked this bakery. It was pretty busy but backed goods we got were so delicious! I would be back.

    (4)
  • Barbara G.

There is absolutely no excuse to not have a credit card machine as a payment choice nowadays. Also, the cupcakes I did buy were stale, and seemed like they came from Walmart not a local bakery. The only reason I am even giving two stars is because the employees were very helpful.

    (2)
  • Ron O.

Extremely rude older lady wearing a cow hat. To busy for me. And it seemed like people ordered and ate and left before we even got our microwaved eggs breakfast samich. Maybe the old lady had Mad cow disease? who knows. our group of 10 liked the bakery items. oh and They don't take Cards.

Delicious donuts & pastries. A MUST visit in Long Beach. Great service. The massive Texas donut is divine. Fluffy, perfect donuts and good coffee to wash it down. Bring cash. Great for kids.

We go to Long Beach at least once a year and always stop in at the Cottage Bakery! Pastries, donuts, muffins, bread, etc. are always fresh! This time while there we ordered our daughter's birthday cake from them....red velvet is what she wanted and was so moist and good! The best red velvet any of us had ever had! Highly recommend!

  • Kayla T.

I grew up here and I always make sure to stop whenever I'm in town. We eneded up taking 4 devil dogs home with us. I live in Vancouver wa and cannot find any bakery that comes to close to what Cottage Bakery has to offer. The prices are the icing on the cake.

AMAZING baked goods and sandwiches!!!! I had the best scone EVER there. It was nice and moist, not dry lie most are!

  • Kelcee F.

How has no one mentioned the biscuits and gravy?! I have vacationed in Long Beach 3-5 times a year for practically my whole life. When my family recently debated on whether or not to sell our beach house, the biscuits and gravy worked as a filibuster. We couldn't justify selling our place. If we did, we would run the risk of not having an excuse to come to the bakery. Oh, and the Devil Dogs... More like Angel Dogs... I hope you locals realize just how lucky you are.

    (5)
  • Vanessa A.

This is a reasonably priced little shop, but the woman who helped me seemed pretty grumpy...maybe because they were so busy? Although we all know some places you go that are super busy, but they still seem happy to see you... I was hoping there would be a few more options for a less sugary treat. This place is for someone who basically wants a doughnut, not a true 'bakery' experience in my opinion. Everything seemed to be heavily frosted or full of sugar...possibly what some might expect, but I was hoping for some more croissant or scone type options that are only lightly sweetened Did try the pecan danish as they said it was honey instead of glaze & that was pretty good, not incredibly flavorful, but decent Don't know that there are too many other options in the area & the doughnuts did look good, just wasn't in the mood for that much sweet

Delicious! We got 6 items, and only paid $10. So many yummy things to choose from.

We got delicious pastries for breakfast! Fun location near beach and shops. We got a dozen donuts in a good variety. The blueberry cake donut is delicious!

I would drive to Long Beach just to get my hands on a Devil Dog. They are so good! We tried different things each day during our visit and lived the Devil Dogs the most. Yum! My favorite bakery for sure! Friendly staff, although they don't take cards (they have an ATM) but plan for that.

  • Bree H.

I've only tried the pies and pastries here, but I've had about 15 different kinds and they were all AMAZING. This place does get packed during the warmer months and it can be hard to get in, but during the off-season it's an absolute dream. You can take your time browsing the rows and rows of goodies, making up a perfect box of things to try. If you're a local, or just passing through during the dreary Fall and Winter months, definitely stop in and get your treat fix without having to fight the crowds.

  • Martin G.

I often wander into a bakery filled with expectation and excitement over the possibility of great baked goodness, only to look around at the cases once I'm inside, and say to myself: "ehh." I think sometimes bakeries try too hard to be something other than a traditional bakery, as if there were something wrong with that. This is not the case with the Cottage Bakery. I've yet to encounter a bakery in Seattle which is anything close to this. Unabashedly decadent, they do not skimp on their quality, size, and overall nummy-ness. All I can say is...you guys do it right.

  • Brittany P.

This bakery was only gf place to pop up on yelp, in long beach, so I decided to give it a try. I could only eat their macaroon, which was not quite what I was looking for but got one anyway. Soft and chewy but I wish they had more gluten free/ dairy free options.

    (2)
  • Kim K.

This place knows pastries! I really enjoyed the Devil Dog and Cherry Pocket. I had breakfast there two days in a row--the French sandwich doesn't have as much bacon flavor as I wanted. They use pieces of chopped bacon rather than whole strips. The croissant is not a traditional one, but more like a rich and tender roll shaped like a croissant. Lots of real egg, hot and freshly prepared. It comes with a piece of canned pear--unexpected but nice. Overall I really enjoyed it, the staff were a mix of friendly and brusque. I would eat here anytime I'm in town.

  • Beak E.

The bologna at this place is worth the forty mile round trip. Plus, you can do donuts on the beach that's right down the street and nobody cares!

  • Taylor K.

Great donuts! Huge selection of baked goods at super reasonable prices and a friendly staff. I'd definitely come back.

  • Megan S.

Excellent baked goods; tons of variety! We tried Devil Dogs (our favorite), Bismarks, a Buttermilk Loaf, Old Fashioned, Cinnamon Roll, Danish, and a normal glazed donut. All items, but one, were good (especially the devil dog), but I thought they were also pretty expensive for what they are. The Bismark was probably the worst Bismark I've had in my life. The filling was oddly textured and tasted weird...kind of lemony. It was pretty annoying that they don't take cards. They take cash or check only and have an ATM on site. Fortunately, I happened to have my checkbook (which is a rarity), otherwise I would have gotten screwed by an ATM fee. Kind of poor business practice, in my opinion. I think they should have a minimum purchase requirement or a fee for using a debit card rather than the stone age cash/check only policy.

  • Vanessa B.

Went on a Thursday morning & they were packed! We were greeted right away, very helpful staff, reasonable prices & delish pastries! We loved the patriotic decor, when we asked if the owner was a veteran we were told not only is the owner a vet, he's the current mayor. Will definitely be back.

  • Molly C.

Good quality meats and cheeses and the fresh bread make them so good. I always have the Gobbler on Portuguese herb bread. The homemade soups are pretty good to. Not gourmet, just down-home like mom used to make. The breakfast sandwiches are awesome to and so are the biscuits n gravy!

  • Brian S.

Best bakery and deli on the planet! Be going here for 30+ years. The club sandwich, macaroni salad are the best. Clam chowder is also excellent. And I don't even have to talk about all the baked goods and donuts. Excellent place to eat for breakfast.

Delicious sandwichs. Slice. Meat while when you order and pastries r delicious. Too many to choose from

Note - this is written 3/31/13 for a early evening visit on 3/16/13. It's nice to see a straight forward bakery with an amazing array of baked goods. There's also day-old baked goods available - the bag of danishes the next morning were tasty and hit the spot, perfect for an on the go family. Seems to be the community meeting place too - with folks gathered around deep in conversation. The mochas and hot chocolate warmed us up from a surprising ocean squall complete with hail, but definitely you are here for the homemade goodies. Looks like they also have lunch service. But again, you're here for the baked goods! I'm sure they are slammed during high tourist season because of the wide selection and prices.

Whenever I'm in Long Beach at my friend's beach house this bakery is a MUST. We go for breakfast every day we are there... Everything is fresh, delicious, and super cheap! Coming from Seattle bakeries I was astounded at how inexpensive these items are, but the quality is still super high! 5 stars!

    (5)
  • Amy B.

This place was amazing! We stopped in for some breakfast pastries while on vacation and found that they have cream horns! What a nice surprise. We had a plain cake donut which was moist and delicious, a danish round and one of the cream horns. Everything was so flavorful. We can't wait to stop back next time we are down in the area.

  • Whitney O.

Three words: Delicious! Scrumptious! Cheap! This is a must for Long Beach. Many places are spendy; typical of what you would find at the ocean, not this one. Soo reasonable. I got a LARGE chocolate eclair for $1.49...Out of this world!

  • Skyler D.

This place has a nice selection of pastry and baked goods. The cakes were decorated quite fun for the Halloween holiday and the flaky pastries were pretty darn good, however, the cookies were dry and tasted a bit old. I'm afraid if you want coffee you should steer clear, their's was kind of a steamy, warm, brown flavor. The folks behind the counter were smiley and helpful. It's a pleasant small town type bakery and we will definitely visit again for the pastries when we are in town.

We liked what we saw when we walked in, but the pasteries we got were no-go. Stale and not very tasty.

  • Mike S.

Huge and yummy selection of baked goods of every kind you can think off. Large day old rack if you want to save a little $$. Staff is very helpful and friendly. They only accept cash and checks. No plastic which was only a smal problems since we had our checkbook with us. Checks only with valid ID and phone number. You only pay tax on baked goods if you get them to eat in the store. If you tell them you want your baked goods to go, you will not be charged tax per Washington state law. Does not apply to their deli food just bakery items. Weird! Highly recommended!

First visit resulted in one large box. Second visit resulted in TWO large boxes. The only reason I didn't visit again is that we left the area, otherwise, they would be calling my name out when I walked in, like Norm in Cheers. Yes, they were that good!

We ordered our wedding cake from Cottage Bakery, and they delivered it for free to the Oysterville Church. They were a pleasure to work with from start to finish, and the price was lower than I could of possibly imagined. A three tiered wedding cake big enough to feed 100 people that was both beautifully done and delicious for under 200 bucks, amazing!! Besides that big event, we often stop by the bakery on the way back home after a beach trip. My hubby likes the giant maple doughnut and the buttermilk bars, and I like the florentines, apple fritters, and the devil dogs. They must have over 100 dessert offerings, so be prepared to salivate. I also like the sandwiches, which have an old style deli flavor. I've actually never found a sandwich that I like more than the ones at cottage bakery.

Went here both mornings for breakfast that we were in Long Beach over the weekend. BEST pastries I've had in quite a while! Everything tasted very fresh and was absolutely delicious. I also had a latte each morning. The first day, the latte was too hot and I had to wait to drink it but it was yummy. The sugar & spice latte is very good! We got some pastries before we left to take home. Definitely recommend this place!

2.5 stars. Because of its high ratings on Yelp, we decided to check out this bakery on our way out of town. The bakery selection is amazing! Lots of scrumptious looking baked goods for decent prices. We ordered the Persian and buttermilk donuts, a buttermilk donut covered in chocolate, an apple fritter, a snickerdoodle cookie, and a cream puff. The snickerdoodle cookie and cream puff had lots of potential but tasted stale. Everyone who ordered a donut gobbled it up. I, unfortunately, had the cream puff - which looked really impressive and was just $1.95 - but it wasn't flaky or fluffy, and the cream and custard didn't taste fresh.

I don't know if it's because this place is part of my childhood memories, but this place is one of my favorite bakeries. It can be super busy, I mean really busy at times, but it's only a 10min wait at most. The staff is helpful, quick, and friendly. The pastries are so amazingly good!! If you're visiting the beach this should be at the top of your list of places to go!!

Had the rueben, clam chowder, devils cake donut, oat bran muffin, and marrionberry pie. All were excellent!!

Probably the best red velvet cupcakes that I have ever had. Huge selection of baked goods with a nice twist by offering some specialty ones and some foreign offerings. Prices are fair and the service is decent as well. They have a large selection of "day old" offerings for the frugal shopper. It can get very crowded here, but that is a sign of quality, so don't be too deterred. They offer many deli items as well, though we have yet to try them. This has become our after-dinner spot for sweets.

This place is amazing! I've been going here since I was a child. We now have a beach house in Seaview, I go for ginger snaps everytime we're in town. And I don't normally eat, sweets. It's a must stop for vacationers!!!!!

Stopped by after walking my dog on the beach. Hot coffee and a pastry, how yummy is that? ..... Coffee was good, blueberry scone was good, store can use a good cleaning, the woman behind the counter looked GRUMPY and the one in the deli looked like she could use a shower and a good joke to make her smile... Hum... nothing to rave about. I'd gladly drive an extra 20 mins to go to Bailey's in Ocean Park... THEY are de-lic-oius! If they had a location in the center of town I think they'd give Cottage a run for their money.. Just my opinion.

Crazy friendly staff who enthusiastically greeted us both times we went in at different times of day - how nice! Their apple fritter was out-of-this-world perfection, no joke. Their serve-yourself drip coffee on the other hand was, as Ani Difranco might have put it, "just water dressed in brown." Their enormous cookies were decidedly better to the eye than the tongue, but their prewrapped chunks of fruitcake were pretty tasty, if a tad lacking in the molasses department . All in all, I'd say definitely go for the pastries & donut-type stuff, but forage for your caffeine elsewhere ;)

Oh, Cottage Bakery, why can't you be in Portland? I need your diner food and delicious baked goods. I need your lovely, helpful and kind staff. I need you! Cottage Bakery is really two different businesses. First of all, there is the delicatessen. We had decadent biscuits and gravy and a tender crossant sandwich. Food in Long Beach mostly seemed overpriced and not all that amazing, but this certainly wasn't the case here. The two of us ate (including coffees) for about $10.50 in total. Then there is the bakery, which had--if I remember right--three huge cases of baked foods. It took us almost ten minutes to decide what to get. The standouts of our order: apple fritters, coconut/chocolate chunk scones, and peanut butter/chocolate chunk muffins. Mmmmm.

Cottage bakery is amazing. Its not just the location, its not JUST the rum balls (although they are exquisite, and something you cannot find where I am from here in Vancouver,WA). It isnt just the coffee, cakes and pastries. The mile long display of them. Its the service that too rocks. I had a conversation there with a tall man with a mustache who I asked a million questions too before placing my order. Needless to say, he answered each and every one, with a slight smile on his face, and patience in his bright blue eyes. When I ordered my mocha and rumball, we had a small conversation pertaining about the bakery, its history, how the location was a bakery that opened in 1908. How the current owners bought it in 1974. I noticed at that point, how amazing all of the staff was. They were making conversations with their customers, the place was VERY busy. I too then realized that everyone was there not only for their rad pastries, seemingly rad sandwiches, but their service and staff and that warm "small town feel" you get walking into the place. I live a couple hours away from Long Beach, yet I have not been since I was 17 or 18..approximately 8 years back. I remembered the rum balls, a rum ball was the original reason I walked into the place. I recall having one years and years before on a youth group trip and my youth pastor telling me "they will wipe you out!!". Anyways, I am really glad I walked in there that day. People often think Long Beach is primarily for visiting Jake the alligator man, but stopping in Cottage Bakery, is a must see. This week, I will find myself back in the hustle and bustle of my life and job, and I think back on the little things of a good out of town trip and they make me smile knowing that ill make it back one day. I really wish I could thank the kind man personally for keeping the legacy of the bakery alive with conversation and great service. Five stars for food? Yes. Five stars for prime customer service? Absolutely.

Great for a quick bite, for breakfast. I got the pumpkin spice donut and a cup of coffee. They have all kinds of fresh donuts and pastries. Small booths in the front for seating and a small counter to order hot egg sandwiches and the like.

My wife discovered this traditional bakery and was lured in by a 'Devil Dog' and her first attempt to order she was rudely cut off. Second attempt we patiently got our spot and ordered the last 'Devil Dog' and scored some other treats. We chatted it up with other clientele and they directed us to the 'Onion Cheese Bread' and it's been the highlight of our dinner tonight. Gonna get back there for more goodies. If your in Long Beach it's a MANDATORY stop!

I've been going here for a long time & have watched as it gets increasingly worse. (I'd rate it only 1 star for busy weekends!) The last straw was today when I went in and got probably the smallest bagel & I use the term bagel sparingly, bad service & I feel like I was ripped off. When I went up to pay for my order the rude cashier said "that'll be $9." I gave him a $20 & he start grabbing some bills & change & I said "I thought you said $9 shouldn't my change be $11" to which he pulled up the receipt and said "oh, it was $9 but with tax it is $12.63." That seems like more than 30% tax & he was adamant that that was the cost. The line was long and he was jerky so I crabbed my incorrect change & left. Minutes earlier as the person before me ordered a hot chocolate, he asked "Steamed or regular" when she said "regular," he slapped a packet of Swiss Miss Instant Cocoa on the counter & said "here." I'll be hitting other places for breakfast next time I'm in that town.

Awesome grandma-esque fluffy homemade desserts at fire sale prices. On a strip where it's hard to pick out the good 'uns, this unassuming storefront is easy --but criminal-- to miss. Don't be a victim.

We ordered an assortment of pastries to take back to our Condo for snacks. They were good. The maple bars looked kinda sad but tasted good. The Strawbery cream cheese danish was really good. Good thing this bakery isn't in town I'd be going there all the time

OMG, seapods. That is all you need to know about Cottage Bakery, my friend! I'm a sucker for baked goods, so my boyfriend indulgently stopped so we could buy some to eat the next morning. He ended up picking out a lemon seapod. While that may sound like a weird kind of fish, I assure you it's only a delicious pastry! Imagine the fluffiest, tastiest donut possible...fill it with flavorful fruit jelly...and coat it in millions of sparkling granules of sugar. THAT is a seapod! We loved it so much, we ended up going back the next day to buy more even though we were in a hurry. Make time for Cottage Bakery; you won't regret it!

Much better than what you can get at the nearest Thriftway or IGA with a wide selection of items from breads to cakes to variations on doughnuts. If you grew up in a neighborhood with a half dozen bakeries, you'll be disappointed with their quality, price, and service. If your expectations have been shaped with what passes for bakeries in the suburban West Coast, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven.

Not what it was 14 years ago when I first had one of their eclairs. Had one again today during a day trip from Portland metro area. Very disappointed. Custard was clotted and didn't taste fresh and pastry tasted stale. If I go again, I will try a devil dog since everyone raves about those. I will no longer tell people that the best eclairs are from this place.

With all the people saying this is the "best they have ever had" I thought it would be really good. We took home a little of everything they had it seemed like and to tell you the truth it is just like a normal bakery. I don't like how they have there cases because there isn't enough room to even look because people are in the way, because they can't even move either. Their stuff is good but it isn't great

The french buy their breads daily from the bread store that their parents, and most likely grand parents also patronized before them. The local boulangerie is usually walkable. It offers bread of such distinct quality that once accustomed, there is no better in the world, and no need to seek any other source of leavened goodness. American, specifically American Western, culture and social development drove the focus on a homemade source of bread. Until 50 years ago, nobody had ever heard of a baguette, west of the Mississippi, unless they had traveled to France themselves. We westerners are the descendants of settlers who had they walked or drove to their nearest bakery, the bread would have been stale by the time they got back. So all baked goods were done at home, or not at all. But I digress. The Cottage Bakery is an exemplary bakery. It isn't just "great, (caveat) for a small town like Long Beach". It's just plain great. Large selection of quality baked goods, at the epicenter of the city. Go in on any morning and the locals are reading papers, having coffee and doughnuts, or pastries. They have a breakfast menu with sandwiches (egg, bacon, cheese, ham, etc) and Biscuits and Gravy. I tried the English Muffin w/ Egg, Ham, and Cheese. It was good. They have an excellent iteration of the Maple Bar, with a fresh topping and well made base. The day we were there they had a daily special of Ham Bacon and Swiss, Croatian pocket, it was phenomenal. I would kill for a bakery like this to be in my neighbor hood, to be walking distance from real bread, made fresh daily.

Wow! I wish all bakeries were as good as this one. The young guy behind the counter slingin lattes and stuffin bags full of donuts was a total gem. It was busy yet he still had a smile on his face and was very friendly. The breakfast sammie was pretty tasty and the maple donut my son had was also a big hit! This place is a must when in LB.

This is THE best bakery we have ever visited. Period. My wife and I travel alot, and we love to find bakeries everywhere we go. But to date, the Cottage Bakery in Long Beach, WA is hands down THE best. No, the people behind the counter are not going to win any personality contests, but we do not go into bakeries to develop relationships with the counter help... Two words: Devil Dog. If we were to have any more children, the next one would be named after this donut: It's that good. Imagine a cream filled chocolate bar donut... (I have to hurry up with this review so I can go back and get another!) It's like the bacon of donuts. (That's just an expression... there is no bacon in it.) The display counter is filled with so many wondrous treats, you will buy more than you intended. But you should feel free to do so, because the prices are very reasonable. Nuff said.

I wish I could leave LESS than one star. Seriously. I have been going to The Cottage Bakery for years. Every time I visit Long Beach, as the husband enjoys the devil dogs there. I have had good and bad pastry, but almost ALWAYS rude, slow, or just plain TERRIBLE service. I tolerated it, because it always seemed like someone was just having a bad day, never directed TOWARDS me. I was there a couple weeks ago for Bride Of Jake, and although they were slow, the service was friendly enough that day, and the food palatable. Too bad I decided to go back again yesterday morning. I ordered some breakfast sandwiches over at the breakfast counter, along with some espresso. The lattes came out and were good. While we were waiting for our breakfast, we decided to get some pastries to go. A couple cookies for my daughter, and a few cream cheese croissants for my husband and I. The woman was seemingly pleasant at first. She got our pastries, I paid CASH (as that is all they accept) and she handed them to me as my husband took our daughter to a table and got her situated in a high chair. I heard the woman who served me say from behind the counter, "SIr, you got those to go, you need to go." I didn't realize what she was talking about at first. I was walking towards the table to join my husband, and the place was DEAD. Only one other table. I heard her say it again, and so I turned to see who she was talking to. Surprise to me, it was US. I sort of started to smile, thinking that she was joking. Then I realized as she was looking at me, that she was NOT joking. She repeated herself again, this time to me, paired with a "shoo" motion. I was flabbergasted. "What?" She repeated herself again, this time glaringly RUDE. "We ordered food, and it is for here- and not even out YET." I said to her in return. She threw her hands up and shook her head in an irritated fashion. I SERIOUSLY wanted to throw our box of baked goods at her and demand my money back. I paid at the deli counter AND the pastry counter- almost $30!! And this is the way they treat their customers? I was FUMING. I walked over to the deli counter and got our breakfast sandwiches, which were WRONG. All served on english muffins, not on 2 croissants, and one english as I had ordered and paid for. I will never return here. These ladies are all dried up old angry B words. That's what I have to say about this experience. HOW RUDE!

Hadn't been back to the Cottage Bakery for 16 years (way too long, if you ask me) and now that I'm done with vacation I miss it already. We stayed in Long Beach for 4 days and each day went to the bakery in the morning, including one morning before 5am to get pastries and box lunches for our charter fishing trip. The apple fritters and maple bars were awesome. Other items you might want to try are the macaroons, any of their breads, and any other of their doughnuts. The cookies and higher end pastries did leave some things to desire but when you're in Long Beach you shouldn't be trying to find the best European style pastries. Only other reason they did not receive 5 stars is that the service is a little bit old school (read - not very attentive and not very flexible). I'll be back sooner next time!

I checked this place out a bit over a week ago after seeing all the rave reviews. Perhaps we came on a bad day. It was a Sunday and very busy. I did not care for how crowded and cramped the line was or the lack of staffing. We had recently ordered donuts elsewhere, so being tired of that we ordered the raspberry horns, 1 pecan whirl and an eclair. We also purchased a loaf of apple cinnamon bread and english muffins. The english muffins are covered in corn meal and the best I've had. They do not have the yeasty taste some might like better, but the texture and flavor go with pretty much any topping one might think of. They scored points here. The raspberry horns were date horns, much to my kids dismay. The guy behind the counter had insisted that they were raspberry, so apparently even he didn't know what they were. Thankfully 1 of the three was raspberry, so the child that couldn't stand the date traded with me. My husband and I shared the eclair and neither of us was impressed. The pastry itself was dry and chewy and the filling tasted old and lackluster. The pecan wheel we purchased also had a hard consistancy and tasted old. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I truely do hope their donuts are far and away better than what we had for pastries, because all of us were dissapointed in what we tried. The bread was good, not great. I only say it was good because it was soft and fresh. It lacked a lot of flavor though. There was a hint of the apple cinnamon it is labled, but nothing more than a hint. Perhaps I am spoiled by my proximity to Portland, Oregon and the variety of great donut locations nearby, but I just don't get the hype of this place thus far. We do plan on trying them again and sticking to donuts only next time, so perhaps my thoughts may be altered.

Great bakery for cookies and Pies. Sandwiches are ok. Busy in the summer but not in the rest of the year.

  • Tim D.

We didn't get a chance to try anything here. The three people behind the counter ignored us completely while we were standing there for five minutes. Not even a "I'll be with you in a minute." It wasn't that busy, and two of the three were just holding idle conversations while we stood there waiting to purchase a loaf of bread. It was around noon on a Friday, and they just didn't seem interested in helping us at all. Maybe we were just there at an "off" moment or something, but I can't abide bad service. We left without purchasing anything, so I cannot speak as to the quality of product.

It's a bakery in the heart of a beach resort. It's busy. It's crowded. The sandwiches were good on fresh bread. The macaroni salad was OK. The pastry counter was mobbed. That tells you something. What we bought was first rate. The staff was overwhelmed but dealing with it as best as they could. They only take cash or checks though.

Awesome. Excellent baked goods at excellent prices. The Jalapeno cheese bread is my wife's favorite bread on earth, and she is very, very picky. I think one morning I counted 80 + items. Can be hectic, as well known and well liked, but worth wading through the crowd. I wish I had a bakery like this in my neighborhood. A must see if you end up in Long Beach. Mike C

Get the Devil Dog (an eclairish pastry that's uncommonly delicious). The sandwiches are okay, but the Devil Dog's definitely worth the visit!

Coastal towns are often filled with trendy little shops that cater to tourists but that locals don't seem interested in. I don't think that's the case with Cottage Bakery. One of my best friends lives in Long Beach, and she first took me here last spring, when I was in town on a bone-chillingly cold day in April (it snowed!). She's always run into people she knows, and she and her husband go on a regular basis. The pastries here are absolutely fantastic--fresh and light while packing a wallop of sugary and fatty goodness that doesn't hit you until you're all done. The display case has an overwhelming array of treats for every taste, including beautiful cakes. The coffee is awful, but there's plenty of places to go for that instead.

We came here to have coffee. It was very over crowded and wasn't a lot of seating. We stood there for a good 5 minutes not even sure where to order & was ignored. Eventually we were acknowledged only to find out they don't take ATM or credit cards! Who doesn't take cards in this day in age! I was immediately irritated and was ready to walk out & find some where else. My partner however had already made a b-line to their ATM machine (one use per customer). So against my better judgement we ordered. Their coffee was just okay, their breakfast sandwich was bland but still okay. My son ordered a soda and when he tried to get a refill was told he had to pay for it. Who doesn't give free soda refills! Their prices weren't by any means a deal to make up for the $5+ bank fees for withdrawing from their ATM. So if you'd like to be ripped off in an over crowded establishment visit Cottage Bakery. If not skip it as there are plenty of other places to eat along the strip. I know I won't be returning.

Excellent pastries. Worth the 3.5 hour drive from Seattle. I have visited the Cottage Bakery in the heart of Downtown Long Beach, WA since I was a youngin' more than 30 years ago. It is virtually the same as it was then. I like the devil dogs (like a Bismark filled with Bavarian creme) and figure 8 danishes but the bread is terrific too! The kids liked the regular glazed donuts and the peanut butter M&M cookies. Espresso... err... not so great. But that's forgivable given the exceptional nature of the fresh baked goods. Early birds: this place opens at 4AM!

This bakery has been around for a long time and it has that classic 40's charm with some booths and attractive stools. It's a family owned business and its one of those amazing out of the way places that serves some of the best doughnuts, cakes, cookies, and treats I have ever tried. They open very early in the summer time so the fishermen can grab a hot cup of Joe and a pastry before heading out on their boats. My dad would go in early and listen to them talking about yesterdays catches, then visit again around 9:00 AM with the rest of the family and have another bearclaw. They do this brownie nut cookie that melts in your mouth like a fudgey chocolately cloud, I've never had anything better. They also have these huge Texas donuts that are the size of salad plates and very tasty too. It's always busy because it's always good! I've had a nice sandwich and soup here too, but the baked goods are slice of heaven!

This bakery is awesome and strikes me as the gem of the Long Beach boardwalk. When we go to LB there are two things I know I am guaranteed to do: Go-kart racing and the cottage bakery. My favorites are the seapods (like a jelly filled raised doughnut) and the apple turnovers which are overflowing with apple filling. Usually finding the filling in a turnover at most places is a bite and hunt expedition. For anyone that is in that area, it is DEFINITELY worth stopping by and getting a variety box for the road.

I have been going to the Cottage Bakery for thirty years (my entire life- that should tell you something right there). If you are not familiar with the staff, it is very possible that they come across as being rude. However, I assure you it's just the way they come appear. Pay no mind to this. Sandwiches, clam chowder, and any and all bakery items are very much recommended by me. Yes this place is pretty much always busy on the weekends, especially tourist season. It can be intimidating to people who've never been there before when it is like that. But don't be afraid! :-) I love this place, and will actually be ordering a cake from there in the next day or two. Super good desserts! I am not giving it 5 stars because that rating I reserve for places that are unbelievably impressive. What is funny is a lot of people are mentioning that they go have breakfast there. I don't think of it as a breakfast place, but a lunch place instead. I highly recommend going during non-rush hours/days. For example, a Saturday at 3pm as opposed to noon. Mmmm... chocolate crackle cookies... Oh and check out their cupcakes- they have two sizes! Even if you don't buy one, they are fun to look at!

After eating some seafood on the bay theres no better dessert than a fresh pastry, and man are these good. I hesitated before all the options it was like a fat kids heaven, the staff recomended me the devil dogs and they hit right on the spot. Take your time to choose and ask the staff they always know better.

Holy....! Good luck NOT finding something you want! This is a sweet-tooth's wet dream. Their bakery cases are a sight to behold. We walked out of there with more than we could eat, but it all looked too good to pass up. Their coffee, isn't great, but it'll get the job done. The service is so-so, but you're not there to be waited on hand 'n foot. I think that one could go there every day for a year and still not try everything..... (but I was only there on one day.)
